TOP FIVE CHALLENGES FACED BY HUMAN RESOURCES PROFESSIONALS IN SINGAPORE FOR AI IMPLEMENTATION IN RECRUITMENT
35% of Human Resources professionals most concerned about budget to implement AI recruitment tools.

Singapore, 5th August 2024 - Human Resources professionals in Singapore were most concerned about funding to implement AI recruitment tools according to Hays, the global leader in workforce solutions and specialist recruitment.

The survey conducted in late 2023 polled 1,833 HR and non-HR professionals across Asia to gather feedback about the use of AI in recruitment. The differences between both groups were then analysed to highlight concerns that arose.

When polled about the primary challenges faced when implementing AI, the top five factors that surfaced were as follows:

  • 35% of human resources respondents were concerned about budget constraints
  • 31% mentioned concerns about the lack of human touch and personalisation
  • 31% cited difficulty integrating AI with existing HR systems and processes
  • 30% were worried about data privacy and potential security concerns
  • 28% perceived issues with IT implementation

Budget constraints were also the key challenge highlighted by HR professionals in Malaysia and Hong Kong SAR, whilst peers in China and Japan identified a lack of human touch and personalisation and concerns about the quality of talent failing to meet requirements respectively.

Establishing the long-term cost savings and efficiencies of AI implementation will be crucial to the adoption of AI in recruitment. These solutions will need to include adequate technical support and any required infrastructure upgrades to support the integration. Upon roll-out, careful consideration should be applied to retaining human elements in the recruitment process.

Unlike their HR peers, non-HR professionals ranked the understanding and interpretation of AI data and ensuring fairness and bias mitigation in AI algorithms within their top 5 key challenges for AI implementation in recruitment. 51% more non-HR professionals expressed concern regarding the former.

"Only 21% of employers in Singapore use AI to assist them in various stages of recruitment," said Tom Osborne, Managing Director of Hays Southeast Asia. "Leaders will need to understand and tackle underlying issues identified by both HR and non-NR professionals. HR professionals will additionally require budgetary support to cater for hands-on training with AI recruitment tools and AI solutions with more human-like interactions or strategic human elements to ensure all stakeholders are comfortable to utilise AI in the recruitment process"
